PARAKH (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) has initiated a survey for water supply from Panjsher province to Kabul to address the resource shortage problem in the nation’s capital.
A delegation from the ministry’s Department of Survey and Design and head of SKM Turkish Construction met Panjsher Governor Hafiz Mohammad Agha Hakim.
In a statement from his office, the governor said on the completion of the survey, practical work on the project would kick off to overcome the water shortage issue in the capital.
Meanwhile, MoEW official Mohammad Arif Momand called the water supply scheme a national project -- 120 kilometre long. It starts from the Bazarak locality of Panjsher and ends in the Tarakhel area of Kabul.
He said the contract for the mega project would be inked with a construction company in the near future.
The shortage of drinking water has become a serious problem in Kabul over the last few years, irking residents of the capital.
