GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A ban has been imposed on transactions in foreign currencies in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.
Governor Hafiz Amin Jan Omari told Pajhwok Afghan News a committee has been formed to enforce the ban.
He said they a held meeting with traders, shopkeepers and common people in this regard on Monday.
He said: “Promoting the local currency is the order of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) supreme leader, serious attention should be paid and no negligence should be accepted in this regard,”
The governor also warned legal actions would be taken in case of violation.
All money changers, car dealers, jewelers, shopkeepers and common people were obliged to avoid using foreign currency in their transactions, he added.
Meanwhile, Ghazni residents welcomed the government’s decision to ban transactions in foreign currencies, saying the move would help Wakil Ahmad, inhabitant of Ghazni city, told Pajhwok: “If this program goes ahead under a good plan, it will be beneficial because most people still use the Pakistani rupees in their transactions in the province.”
A ban has been imposed on transactions in foreign currencies across the country in compliance with directives of the IEA supreme leader.
