ZARANJ (Pajhwok): A price list has been prepared for tailors to charge for stitching different types of suits in northwestern Nimroz province.

Mohammad Ishaq Joya, head of industrial parks at the Department of Industry and Trade, told Pajhwok that “after receiving repeated complaints from the people about high prices tailors charged for stitching clothes, a committee was formed to monitor market prices in general.

He added the committee found that tailors charge high rates for sewing clothes and people could not afford them.

According to him, the said committee has issued specific price lists for all sectors, including tailors and retail shops, and businessmen are obliged to install the lists inside their shops and perform accordingly.

He added according to the price list, the rate of sewing a simple suit is now 200 afghanis, sewing shiny clothes is 250 afghanis, the price of special clothes is 400 afghanis, and the price of sewing children’s clothes is 120 and 150 afghanis.

He also said wholesalers were also obliged to charge 10 percent profit on each meter of fabric.

Joya warned if the price lists were disobeyed, the violators would be dealt with legally.

Some residents welcomed the price lists and said every tailor fleeced customers.

Ezatullah Nawrozi, a resident of Zaranj city, told Pajhwok tailors increased rates during the holy month of Ramadan and continued to charge the same..

He added: “Previously, it was cheap to get a suit sewn, but in the holy month of Ramadan, tailor increased rates three-fold, so far the rates have not returned to normal. People cannot afford to buy clothes and get then sewn.”

Also, Sediq Rahmati, a resident of Kong district, also praised the price lists said: “I buy a suit for 100 afghanis per meter, and four meters cost 400 afghanis, but the price of sewing it is 500 and 600 afghanis, which we cannot afford.”
