KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Poppy crop has been destroyed on dozens of acres of land in Kunduz city and districts of northern Kunduz province during the last one month, an official said on Sunday.
Police spokesman Jumaddin Khaksar told Pajhwok Afghan News the still ongoing poppy eradication campaign was launched a month ago in Khanabad, Aqtash, Imam Sahib, Aliabad and Qalazal districts.
He said the illicit plant had been eradicated on 30 acres of land so far.
The plant’s cultivation has decreased in Kunduz province compared the past and farmers have stitched to alternative crops.
On the other hand, residents and farmers welcomed the poppy eradication drive in the province.
Mahmoodullah, a farmer, asked the government to assist farmers by providing them with alternative seeds.
The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) supreme leader has banned the cultivation, selling and smuggling of drugs in the country.
