KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): A 50-year old feud between three families in Tani district of southeastern Khost province was finally turned into friendship, thanks to mediators.
Originated from landownership, three people, including a woman, had been killed and six others wounded from both sides in the enmity.
The feud was resolved and turned into friendship today (Wednesday) after a high-ranking official Ibrahim Haqqani and tribal elders mediated between the former foes.
Meanwhile, members of the reconciling families were happy over the mediation of tribal elders and urged them to resolve more such enmities.
Haji Sharf, whose brother and cousin were killed in the enmity, told Pajhwok Afghan News he was happy that after five decades, their enmity came to an end.
He said: “We endured a lot of difficulties in this period and we finally decided to end our enmity.”
Shiren, another member, asked other families to end their enmities through talks.
He said enmity only offered destruction and requested people to exercise patience in verbal exchanges.
At the same time, Ishaq Haqqani, a member of Ibrahim Haqqani’s family, who resolved the enmity, told Pajhwok that their effort was to resolve more such enmities and problems between tribes and families.
He said they had so far resolved dozens of hostilities in the province.
He added: “We have asked tribal elders to identify families hostile to each other and try to mediate between them. Islam is based on peace and tranquility, so where there is enmity, there is no peace. We are trying to end hostilities and establish peace.”
About 50 enmities between families and tribes have been resolved and turned into friendship since the takeover of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).
