KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in southeastern Khost province have demanded the construction work of 12 half-finished Jami Mosques.
Situated in the Khost City, the provincial capital, and some districts work on these Mosques remained suspended for the past three years.
One of these half-finished Mosques is the Central Edigah Mosque of Maton, only 30 percent construction work has been completed.
The Maton Tribe Sermon Mawlavi Abdul Rahim Bilali told Pajhwok Afghan News 18 million afs were approved by the Administrative Affairs for the construction of this mosque.
He demanded the swift completion of the construction work of the Maton Jami Mosque.
“This mosque has no surrounding walls it has only a roof and we prayed here in January as well, the roof will also collapse if the reconstruction work is not resumed, engineers said that the iron-made roof could be damage,” he said.
Mohibullah, one of the residents, said if the construction work is not resumed there is the possibility that some work that has been done could also be derailed.
“During the previous democratic regime work on this mosque was carried out, but from the past three years on work has been done and we face problems during wind and rain,” he said.
Mawlavi Arif Shah Arif, deputy head of the provincial Hajj and Religious Affairs Department, said due to the lack of budget they were unable to resume work on these 12 Jami Mosques.
“We tried our best to complete the remaining work of these mosques, our department regularly shared the issue with the ministry,” he said.
It is pertinent to mention that during the past regime the foundation stone of 9 mosques at the cost of 135 million afs was laid but until now its construction work has not completed.
