KABUL (Pajhwok): Tehran is set to host the second meeting of the Regional Contact Group on Afghanistan today (Saturday), says a media report.
The group had been created in the framework of the Moscow Format on Iran’s initiative in January this year to help address concerns about Afghanistan.
Press TV quoted Rasoul Mousavi, an assistant to Iran’s acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani, as announcing the meeting on Friday.
Special representatives from Iran, Pakistan, China and Russia will attend the meeting, whose agenda includes consultations on Afghanistan’s future.
Mousavi said the Tehran meeting would herald peace, stability and development in Afghanistan and the region at large.
Kabul had hosted the group’s maiden meeting on January 18. Special envoys and ambassadors from regional countries and Afghanistan’s neighbours were in attendance.
The contact group’s consultations come ahead of the third meeting of special representatives for Afghanistan and the UN secretary-general in Doha.
