KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghanistan’s stance has been acknowledged in the third UN-led Doha meeting which concluded with a favorable result for the country, an official said on Wednesday.

During the two day meeting Afghan delegation held 24 separate meetings with the representatives of different countries, said Zabihullah Mujahid, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) spokesman.

The UN-convened meeting on Afghanistan stared in Jun 30 and ended in July 2 was attended by a delegation from the IEA additional to the representatives and envoys of 30 countries and international bodies.

The meeting was chaired by UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peace building Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo.

The head of the IEA delegation for the meeting and spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid told reporters that the participants of the meeting accepted the achievements made by IEA in the country.

The delegates of the IEA shared information about the developments of private sector and achievements obtained counter narcotics fields by the IEA.

As a matter of importance, nearly all participants of the meeting expressed their commitment to help Afghanistan for the development of private sector and fighting the drugs and they considered these issues as their obligations, Mujahid said.

At the Doha meeting, we found out that the world understood and accepted the achieved progress in Afghanistan, he said.

All understood, instead of getting away from Afghanistan all must get closer to this country, however there are some challenges but more developments are also made so no should tie trade and human rights issues with political ones, he said.

Mujahid said: “We told to the world clearly to put aside all humanitarian issues that directly affect the daily life of Afghans and not use such issue as political pressure tool.”

At the regional level, Afghanistan has good partner countries, it is not isolated and the policies of pressure and sanctions have no results so doors should remain opened for interaction, he added.

The IEA regime will not allow anyone to use Afghanistan as a centre for political rivalry, all of the efforts must be focused to make this country as an economic hub for the region.

The IEA has also voiced a call for releasing the frozen assets of Afghanistan which was supported by Russia, China, Iran, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.

“The delegate of the IEA have also met the US envoy and discussed issues of mutual interests and they talked about releasing the two Americans that are held in Afghanistan. However IEA had its own reasons for releasing the American national because we still have Afghans in Gunatanamo. If the lives and freedom of American citizens are important to them, the lives and freedom of Afghans are also very important to us and we strongly defend their rights.” Mujahid concluded.

Mujahid added: “However a number of countries had their own concerns about the rights of women, it was explained by the IEA to them that the rights of women and human rights issue are domestic issues of Afghanistan and the IEA will look for a solution for these issues.”

Rosemary DiCarlo, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General told reporters yesterday in Qatar that they met with the representatives from 15 countries and members of Afghan civil society activists and human rights and discussed the issues regarding girls’ education, minorities rights and a number of other issues on the sidelines of the third Doha meeting.
