LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Construction work has been launched on an 11-kilometer portion of the Lashkargah-Kandahar highway in southern Helmand province.

Lashkargah mayor Maulvi Abdullah Rohani told Pajhwok Afghan News the road would cost 19 million afghanis from the municipality’s development budget and would take three months to complete.

He said the road would be widened and blacktopped.

Abdul Mohammad, an inhabitant of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, told Pajhwok the road should be constructed in a standard manner.

He said many traffic accidents occurred on this road and its construction would help prevent traffic accidents.
