KABUL (Pajhwok): Practical work on extracting copper from Mes Aynak in central Logar province will begin at the end of this week.
Hamayoon Afghan, spokesman for the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum (MoMP), wrote on X after a 15-year delay, the mining process would finally commence by the end of the week.
He said the contracting company, as per commitments made in 2008, would initiate the extraction of copper from the mine without further delay.
The contract for mining copper at Mis Aynak had been signed during the administration of ex-president Hamid Karzai in 2007.
