Haqqani stresses dignified return of Afghan refugees

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) has renewed its commitment to bring back Afghan refugees from Iran and stressed a joint strategy to ensure the dignity and honor of returnees, a statement said on Tuesday.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations on x.com wrote that acting Refugees Minister Khalil Rahman Haqqani has held a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Afghanistan Hassan Kazimi Qummi here.

The Acting minister of Refugees and Returnees thanked Iran for hosting Afghan refugees for 40 years and said: "IEA has also decided to bring back the refugees to the country, but a joint mechanism should be established to ensure the dignified return of refugees”.

Mawalvi Kalimurrahman Fani, the ministry’s Administration and Finance head, during the meeting said: “We are committed to the rights of all our neighbors according to Islamic law and we expect the same thing from our neighbors.”

The Iranian envoy pledged support to Afghanistan and said Tehran stood by Kabul in difficult situations and would continue its support in the future as well.

He termed reports regarding the maltreatment of Afghan refugees in Iran enemy propaganda and said that Iran was committed to all rights of refugees.

The meeting agreed that a delegation of the MoRR would visit Iran and assess the situation of Afghan refugees closely.

This comes when earlier Iranian official said that nearly two million illegal people would be expelled from Iran. Most refugees living in Iran are Afghans and Iran deported tens of Afghans daily.

Recently some Afghan refugees deported from Iran told Pajhwok Afghan News that Iranian Police expelled them from Iran and treated them unfairly.
