KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) says that reports circulated regarding the killing and injuring of dozens of Afghans on the Iran-Pakistan border remain unverified, and a decisive decision will be made following a thorough clarification.
An Iran-based human rights organisation claims Iranian border guards shot dead a large number of Afghan migrants near the Kulgon border area of Saravan city.
Haalvsh, citing two eyewitnesses, reported that at least 260 Afghan migrants were killed while attempting to cross into Iran.
Meanwhile, IEA chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid wrote on X: “Today, rumours have surfaced in the media about the martyrdom and injury of several Afghan nationals at the Iran-Pakistan border.”
Different organs of the caretaker government were investigating and examining the incident, Mujahid said, adding a necessary decision would be taken once clarity emerged.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for IEA, also wrote on X: “Recent media reports have circulated regarding the alleged deaths and injuries of Afghan nationals along the Iran-Pakistan border. “
“As the incident is reported to have occurred beyond Afghanistan’s borders, the available information remains unverified. A conclusive decision will be made following a thorough clarification of the facts.”
