Afghan migrants targeted with gunfire, blasts

KABUL (Pajhwok): Explosions and gunfire hit Afghan migrants at the Iran-Pakistan border, suggests preliminary investigations by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA).

It said two dead bodies and 34 eyewitnesses, including some injured individuals, had been transferred to the country so far.

On October 15, an Iran-based human rights organisation claimed Iranian border guards shot dead a large number of Afghan migrants near the Kulgon border area of Saravan city.

Haalvsh, citing two eyewitnesses, reported that at least 260 Afghan migrants were killed while attempting to cross into Iran.

Later on, the interim government appointed a delegation, headed by Deputy Minister of Interior Mohammad Ibrahim Sadr, to investigate the incident.

IEA deputy spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat wrote on X: “The delegation’s initial information suggests blasts and gunfire were carried out against some Afghan refugees in Kalgan valley of Iran.

“Two martyrs’ bodies and 34 eyewitnesses, including some injured, have been transferred to the country so far,” Fitrat said.

Investigations into the incident have not been completed yet and the delegation is working to find more information. Final details will be released after the investigation was completed, the spokesman concluded.
