Khinjan’s residents build road, brigde on self-help basis

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): Spending their own money, residents of Khinjan district of northern Baghlan province have constructed a bridge and a road at a cost of 3.5 million afghanis.

Rahmatullah Shinwari, a member of development council of Turkan village of the district, told Pajhwok Afghan News residents from 15 villages of the district built and put into service a bridge and a five-kilometre road.

He said problems of residents of these villages were addressed with execution of the projects.

Malim Nujman, a resident of Turkan village, urged the caretaker government and partner institutions to construct road side streams along the newly constructed road.

However, Noor Jan Kakar, an official of Rural Rehabilitation and Development Department, said they did not have information about the road and bridge constructed by locals.

He voiced satisfaction with the initiative and asked people to share their problems with his department.

Some development projects had recently been executed by local residents, traders and well-off individuals in various provinces.
