Trail competitions of hockey kick off in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Hockey competitions between teams from nine provinces involving 200 players have started in Kabul to select players for the national hockey team.

Teams from Kabul, Bamyan, Paktia, Paktika, Khost, Faryab, Nangarhar, Nuristan and Herat province participating in the trail competitions which will continue for six days.

Ahmadullah Waseeq, head of the Olympic Committee and General Director of Sport, said that hockey was a global game and efforts were underway to promote this game in the country.

He hoped that one day the national hockey players would appear in international games.

Hockey Team Coach Mohammad Zaman Sapi said teams from nine provinces have participated in the eighth round of trail competitions involving 200 players.

Rahim Ghamzada, one of the players, said the played hockey for the past nine years and was fully prepared to participate in this competition.

He hoped to play well and be selected for the national hockey team.

Mohammad Ali Anwar, who plays for Bamyan, said the trial competition was vital for him and his team.

He said he was prepared for the trial competition and hoped for positive outcome.
