PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Five security personnel have been killed and several others wounded in fresh attacks in Pakistan’s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The casualties resulted from an improvised explosive device blast in Dera Ismail Khan and a militant attack on a police checkpoint in Shangla districts on Tuesday.
According to Dawn, the IED attack targeted a security personnel’s vehicle in the Daraban tehsil in Dera Ismail Khan. Three personnel were killed and two others injured in the incident.
Elsewhere in the province, gunmen stormed a police checkpoint in the Chakesar tehsil, Shangla district, killing two cops and injuring three others.
Heavy weapons, including rocket shells and hand grenades, were used in the coordinated militant assault, said Shangla District Police Officer (DPO) Imran Khan.
