KABUL (Pajhwok): Russia has signaled its willingness for talks with the Trump administration on the Ukrainian conflict, calling for addressing the root causes of the crisis.
President Vladimir Putin told the Russian Security Council: “We are also open to dialogue with the new US administration about the Ukrainian conflict. The most important thing is to eliminate the root causes of the crisis …”
TASS quoted Putin as saying Russia had taken note of statements from President Donald Trump and his team regarding the resumption of contacts and the need for efforts to avert “World War III”.
Speaking at the same meeting, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also said Russia was open to constructive proposals from the new US government.
Shortly before the Republican leader took oath as the 47th US president, the top Russia diplomat commented: “Fortune telling is an unrewarding task. We are open to contacts.”
