Uniform made mandatory for on-duty police officers

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) says all police officers and personnel under its command are required to wear uniform while on duty.

In a statement, MoI said since its core responsibilities included maintaining security, enforcing law and combating crimes, the decision was made at a meeting chaired by acting Interior Minister Khalifa Sirajuddin Haqqani.

The statement added that all military officials and personnel were now obliged to wear uniform approved by the Islamic Emirate’s leadership during official duty hours.

The ministry noted that the move was aimed at making it easier for the public to identify police officers.

This comes as most police personnel currently wear uniform, though some continue to wear civilian clothing while on duty.
