5 held over bird hunting, 1 for witchcraft in Samangan

AIBAK (Pajhwok): Five individuals have been arrested over bird hunting and another person on charge of witchcraft in northern Samangan province, an official said on Monday.

Police spokesman Hashmatullah Rahmani said five people were detained while hunting various types of birds form Shabaghali plain area with hunting equipment in Kholom district.

He said the arrested suspects would be referred to judicial organs after an investigation.

Also, the Directorate of Propagation of Virtue said in a statement that a person has been arrested on charges of witchcraft in the Hazrat Sultan district.

According to the statement, the suspect used tools to perform magic and sorcery and received money from local people in return.

“This individual introduced himself as having supernatural powers deceiving people and abusing religious and traditional beliefs, thereby providing the basis for financial abuse.

The accused has been introduced to the judicial authorities.
