Kabul-Kandahar highway expansion work begins in Ghazni

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): Local officials in southern Ghazni say construction work on both sides of the Kabul-Kandahar highway has begun in central area of the province.

Ghazni governor’s spokesman Maulvi Ezatullah Saeedi told Pajhwok Afghan News the project was aimed at expanding the highway, providing convenience to passengers and reducing traffic accidents.

He added that both sides of the highway from Esfandi to Maidan Wardak to Aziz Qala in the central area of Ghazni, which are half-unpaved, would be fully and substantially constructed within six months.

According to him, the project includes the reconstruction of both sides of the 28-kilometer road, each side of which is one and a half meters wide.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Public Works at a cost of 53 million afghanis.

Saeedi believed fatal traffic accidents will be greatly reduced with the completion of the project,.

Meanwhile, drivers and passengers said they were happy with the move by the Ministry of Public Works and said that the narrowness of the road caused accidents, but now they hoped to get rid of them

One of them, Mohammad Amin, told Pajhwok that he hopes this project will help reduce accidents.

He asked the officials to carry out the work in a standard and quality manner.

It is worth noting that the first phase of the road, which is about 100 kilometers long, between Ghazni and Muqor districts, was started about five months ago at a cost of 200 million afghanis.
