KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 12 people have been killed and four others injured in an earthquake that struck six provinces of Afghanistan, an official said on Saturday.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesman for the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA), wrote on his X account that a relatively strong 5.8-magnitude quake struck several provinces, including the capital Kabul, at 8:42pm on Friday night.
He added that five houses were completely destroyed and 33 others partially damaged, affecting a total of 40 families.
Preliminary reports suggested the casualties occurred in Kabul, Panjsher, Logar, Nangarhar, Laghman and Nuristan provinces, Fitrat said.
According to international seismological centres, the epicentre of the quake was in Yamgan district of northeastern Badakhshan province at a depth of 186.37 kilometres.
