Afghan, Uzbek traders ink 14 agreements worth over $524m in Herat

KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan and Uzbek businesspeople have signed 14 commercial agreements worth more than $524 million, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI) said on Tuesday.

The agreements were signed at a business connectivity conference between the private sectors of Uzbekistan’s Andijan region and Afghanistan’s western Herat province, ACCI said in a statement.

Faiz Ahmad Khwafi, deputy director of ACCI, stressed the importance of expanding economic ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, particularly between Herat and Andijan.

Referring to Herat’s strategic location and the key role of Islam Qala and Torghundi ports, Khwafi described the province as one of the country’s major trade and industrial hubs.

He also highlighted the importance of exchange visits by trade delegations in boosting economic growth and increasing bilateral trade, calling shared interests between Herat and Andijan a positive step towards facilitating commerce and strengthening cooperation.

The Herat governor appreciated the efforts of ACCI and the Uzbek delegation and pledged to visit Andijan province soon to exchange views with traders and investors.

At the conference, 14 commercial agreements worth more than $524 million were signed between traders of the two countries across various sectors.

This comes a day after 38 agreements worth over $520 million were signed between Afghan and Uzbek traders during a similar private sector conference held in Kabul.
