KABUL (Pajhwok): Five people, including two attackers, have been killed after two armed teenagers opened fire at the Islamic Center of San Diego, the largest mosque in the area in the US state of California.
According to Reuters, the two armed teenagers carried out the shooting on Monday at the Islamic Center of San Diego, killing a security guard and two other men.
Police officials said the two attackers, aged 17 and 18, were later found inside a vehicle and appeared to have died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
Scott Wahl, the San Diego police chief, said the FBI and local law enforcement agencies were investigating the incident, but the exact motive remained unclear.
Wahl said the mother of one of the suspects called police about two hours before the deadly shooting, informing them that her son, along with several weapons and her vehicle, was missing. Police were searching for the teenager and his friend when they received a 911 call from the Islamic Center of San Diego.
According to police, children present at the school affiliated with the mosque were not harmed during the incident.
The imam and president of the Islamic Center of San Diego described the attack as “shocking”, saying the targeting of a mosque was deeply disturbing and unacceptable.
