KABUL (Pajhwok): At least four people were killed and 36 others injured after the first spell of monsoon rains triggered incidents including lightning strikes, building collapses and road accidents across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, media reports said on Thursday.

According to Dawn, casualties were reported from Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Khyber, Shangla, Mardan and Bajaur districts on Wednesday.

In Upper Dir, 21 female students were injured in a stampede after lightning struck near their seminary, causing panic during heavy rain. All the injured were shifted to hospital and were stated to be out of danger.

In Lower Dir, a child was killed and several others injured in a passenger coach collision, while separate incidents of wall collapse and falling debris left additional people injured.

In Khyber district, two children were killed and three others injured in a lightning strike, while in Shangla, a woman was killed after being swept away in flash floods.

Authorities said rescue teams responded to multiple rain-related emergencies as heavy rainfall also disrupted traffic and caused temporary flooding in several areas.
