KABUL (Pajhwok): Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi says Tehran has so far honoured its commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, accusing the United States of violating Paragraph 9 of the agreement.
In a post on X, Araghchi said the alleged violation followed “other violations and missteps” by the United States.
“Iran has so far kept its word, unlike the so-called US Treasury Secretary who is violating Para 9 of the MoU,” he wrote.
He added: “Reality check: There can only be mutual compliance.”
The remarks came after the US Department of the Treasury announced new sanctions related to Iran, targeting 14 individuals and entities, including Iranian banker Ali Ansari, three currency exchange firms and several companies operating abroad.
The US Treasury accused those targeted of facilitating financial transactions through front companies, evading sanctions and transferring resources for the benefit of Iranian officials and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
The latest sanctions come as the Islamabad Memorandum included commitments by Washington to move towards reducing and eventually lifting sanctions on Iran.
