KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has visited families affected by recent floods in eastern Nuristan province, expressed sympathy with the victims and reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s (IEA) commitment to supporting them.
Baradar prayed for those who lost their lives in the floods and wished the injured a speedy recovery, his office said in a statement.
He said officials from relevant departments had reached the affected areas in the early days of the disaster and made every effort, using available resources, to rescue and assist those affected.
Baradar assured the affected families that the IEA would continue to support them and address their problems to the extent possible.
Representatives of the private sector accompanying the delegation also distributed cash assistance among the affected families.
Religious scholars, tribal elders and local residents thanked the delegation for visiting the affected areas and conveyed their concerns and requests to the deputy prime minister.
Baradar pledged to take necessary steps to address the issues raised by the residents.
