In a statement, the ministry said a meeting of the committee responsible for facilitating returning traders and industrialists was chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Nooruddin Azizi.

It said the committee reviewed the applications of 17 returnees engaged in dried fruit and pulses processing, the production and packaging of herbal medicines, embroidery, carton manufacturing, thread and tape production, electrical and electronic equipment, fruit juice production, footwear, ice cream, garment elastic, bitumen, steel bars and carbon products, metalworking, cold storage services, honey production and clothing.

It added that 16 applicants had been confirmed as eligible traders and industrialists under the committee’s regulations.

The statement noted that their combined investment exceeded US$9.6 million.

According to the ministry, those whose applications have been approved will receive the incentives and facilities provided for under the committee’s procedures.

The launch of these investment projects would create direct employment opportunities for hundreds of people across the country, the statement concluded.
