KABUL (Pajhwok): Azizi Energy and China’s Shanghai Electric have signed an agreement to develop power projects with a combined capacity of 3,000 megawatts over the next four years, Azizi Group Chairman Mirwais Azizi said Friday.

Azizi said on X that during his ongoing visit to China, he met with senior Shanghai Electric officials, including Chairman Xiang Zhilang, to discuss expanding cooperation in the energy sector.

Shanghai Electric is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of power-generation equipment and operates in coal- and natural gas-fired power generation, as well as renewable energy, including solar and wind power, Azizi said.

He added that Azizi Energy had previously worked with Shanghai Electric to procure power-generation equipment.

Three solar power projects with a combined capacity of 330MW are currently under construction in Kabul, Parwan and Ghazni provinces using equipment supplied by the Chinese company.

Azizi said cooperation between the two companies was expected to expand in the coming years to include renewable and thermal power projects, as well as equipment for electricity substations.

Under the new agreement, the two sides will cooperate on developing power plants with a combined capacity of 3,000MW over the next four years.
