GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A loader operator has died following a dispute over land ownership between members of a land-grabbing prevention commission and local residents in Qala-i-Joz area of southern Ghazni province, police said.
The Ghazni police headquarters said in a statement that the incident took place on Tuesday in Qala-i-Joz, within the jurisdiction of the city’s third police district.
According to the statement, members of the land-grabbing prevention commission had gone to the area to investigate a land ownership dispute when a verbal confrontation broke out with local residents. The residents later pelted a loader operating at the site with stones.
The loader operator was seriously injured and taken to Kabul for treatment, but later died from his injuries, the statement said.
Security forces arrived at the scene shortly after the incident and brought the situation under control, police said.
Several suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident, and an investigation is underway, according to the police.
