FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): An Australian tourist travelling with a 10-member group to the Little Pamir in the Wakhan Corridor of northeastern Badakhshan province died of a heart attack while hiking in Chaparan Valley.

Zahurullah Fakhri, head of the state-owned Afghan Tour company, said the incident occurred on Sept. 3.

He identified the tourist as Charles Philip and said he suffered cardiac arrest while hiking in Chaparan Valley.

Fakhri said other members of the group tried to revive him, but their efforts were unsuccessful.

The tourist’s body was transferred to Badakhshan Provincial Hospital and is expected to be transported to Kabul by ambulance, he added.
