KABUL (Pajhwok): International media have reported that the Trump administration has issued visas to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to attend next week’s United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

According to the Associated Press (AP), the US State Department said Thursday evening that visas had been issued to Iran’s “principal delegation” and essential staff to attend UN meetings.

US officials, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Pezeshkian and Araghchi are among the members of Iran’s principal delegation, according to the report.

Despite the issuance of the visas, members of the Iranian delegation will face restrictions on their movement in the United States and will be prohibited from purchasing luxury goods and certain other items.

The US State Department said the number of members of Iran’s delegation this year would be lower than last year.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has not yet commented on the issuance of US visas to President Masoud Pezeshkian and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi for their participation in the UN General Assembly.
