KABUL (Pajhwok): At least five people have been killed and six others severely injured in an Israeli airstrike on a residential apartment in western Gaza City, according to medical staff at al-Shifa Hospital.
Al Jazeera reported today (Saturday) that the strike hit the al-Asala building in the Remal neighbourhood of Gaza City early in the morning, without prior warning.
Remal is one of Gaza City’s most densely populated residential areas and is home to thousands of displaced Palestinians living in makeshift camps.
According to Al Jazeera, the attack took place during the night while residents were asleep. The strike hit the targeted apartment and caused further destruction to the lower floors of the multi-storey building.
A fire broke out following the attack and burned for at least an hour before Palestinian Civil Defence crews managed to extinguish it.
Rescue teams were still searching through the rubble for missing people and the bodies of those killed, while Israeli drones continued flying over the area, according to the report.
Al-Shifa Hospital said four women were among those killed, including an elderly Christian woman and her daughter. The six injured people were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The attack occurred amid continued Israeli attacks in Gaza following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas that began in October 2025.
