KABUL (Pajhwok): Twelve people have been killed and 309 others injured in an attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the country’s General Authority of Civil Aviation says.
Saudi Gazette, an English-language Saudi newspaper, reported on Sunday, citing the authority, that the attack took place on Saturday afternoon, October 10.
The fatalities included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshi nationals and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan, the authority said.
It added that all the injured had been taken to hospitals for treatment, with some reported to be in critical condition.
The attack also caused material damage to airport facilities, and assessments were under way to determine the extent of the damage, according to the authority.
Airport operations were temporarily suspended following the attack to allow authorities to assess the damage, verify the safety of the facilities and ensure the security of passengers, employees and civil aviation infrastructure.
Reuters reported that Saudi authorities and the Saudi-led coalition had blamed Yemen’s Houthi group for the attack. However, Reuters said the group had not claimed responsibility for the October 10 strike.
The attack was the third on King Khalid International Airport within a week, according to Reuters.
Saudi Gazette, citing the civil aviation authority, reported that three Saudi nationals were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks on the same airport on Thursday.
