GARDEZ (PAN): The foundation stone of a new building for the Paktia University, a project worth 12 million afghanis ($262,755) was laid on Monday, an official said.
With the construction of the two-storey building, having 22 rooms, the problems of teachers and students would be resolved, the governor’s spokesman said.
Roohullah Samoon told Pajhwok Afghan News the US-led Provincial Reconstruction) had promised funding for a separate building for female students.
The building was being constructed with funds from the Ministry for Higher Education, the gubernatorial spokesman added.
The Ministry of Counternarcotics had pledged work on a dormitory for students, Paktia University Dean Obaidullah Paryar said.
In eastern Laghman province, a retaining wall was inaugurated. The 350-metre-long wall was constructed along Alingar River in the Jogi Qala area, on the outskirts of Mahtarlam.
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Mohammad Jafar Jabbarkhel said the wall would benefit 180 houses in the area and protect more than 150 acres of farmland from floods.
