HERATCITY (PAN officials in western Herat province on Monday, officials said.
The 20 tonnes of expired and low quality medicine worth $400,000 had been collected from various drug stores across the province by public health department officials over the past months. The medicines were torched in Herat City, the provincial capital, public health director, Dr. Ghulam Saeed Rashid, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
The medicines were made in Pakistan, Iran, India, China and some other Arabic countries, he said.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Mosdiq, chairman of a doctors union, said torching expired medicine was a good step on the part of health officials. He called on officials concerned to prevent imports of such things to the country at borders.
He stressed the need for establishing a libratory to examine imported medicine and food before their subscription to patients.
