China ‘shocked’ over Wali Karzai’s assassination

KABUL): China has expressed its shock and grief over the assassination of the half-brother of President Hamid Karzai.

“We express condolences and sympathy for the family of the victim,” China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told a press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

“As a friendly neighbor, we sincerely wish for Afghanistan to realize peace and stability at an early date,” Hong said.

Ahmad Wali Karzai, head of the Kandahar’s Provincial Council was shot dead by one of his bodyguards, Sardar Mohammad, at his home in Kandahar city on Tuesday. Mohammad was later killed by other security guards.

The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the assassination.

Meanwhile, Logar’s Jihadi Council chief and Presidential Advisor, Shahzada Massoud, condemned the murder of Wali Karzai. He expressed his deep sympathies with president Karzai and prayed for the departed soul.

Also, the family of veteran Pakhtun nationalist leader and legendry poet late Ajmal Khattak of Pakistan‘s northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province expressed deep shock and grief over the death of Wali Karzai.

Ajmal’s son, Aimak Khattak, in a statement to Pajhwok Afghan News said they shared the grief with President Karzai on behalf of all Pashtuns and the family of Ajmal Khattak.

Aimal prayed Allah Almighty to keep the departed soul in eternal peace and award courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with patience and fortitude.
