GHAZNI CITY (PAN fighters had been arrested in a joint operation by Afghan and international soldiers in southern Ghazni province.
The detainees were showed to the media with weapons seized from their possession at a press conference in Ghanzi city by intelligence officials.
Provincail National Directorate of Security (NDS) chief, Syed Amir Shah Sadat, told the press conference that the three were arreted in Qarabagh district without any incident.
The arrests came a week after seven insurgents were arrested with weapons in Giro and Andar districts.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Interior in a statement said four suspects were arrested on the charge of having links with militants. A cache of drugs was also recovered in southern Helmand province.
The four suspects were arrested in Ainak area of Nawa district, while police had discovered 522 kilograms of opium and 25 sacks of heroin in Washir district, the statement said.
In eastern Nangarhar, police claimed to have seized drugs and explosives in an operation in Surkhrod district. The weapons were handed over to the Disbandment of Illegal Armed Groups (DIAG) programme.
Police chief, Brig. Gen. Sardar Mohammad Sultani, confirmed four suspects had been arrested with 13kg of drugs in Surkhrod. In Batikut district, police discovered explsoives hidden in a car, the police cheif said.
The explosives were placed in secret parts of the car, he said, adding the driver had been arrested. The explosives included hand grenades and ammunitions, he said.
Two days back, counternarcotics force discovered 1,000kg of drugs in Achin district.
Meanwhile, the police chief said 28 different weapons were handed over to the DIAG programme. The weapons had been recovered from an organization, which was illegally operating in the province, Sultani said.
