MAIMANA (PAN): Two policemen and as many insurgents were killed during a clash in the Dawlatabad district of northwestern Faryab province on Friday, an official said.
The predawn firefight happened after the Taliban blew up a pylon disrupting power supply to most parts of the province, said the governor’s spokesman.
Ahmad Javed Baidar told Pajhwok Afghan News police killed two fighters and seized two weapons from them. While returning from the scene, a police armoured vehicle struck a roadside bomb, killing two personnel.
A government official said on condition of anonymity the fire exchange continued until the afternoon. As a consequence, the Shiberghan-Maimana highway was blocked for several hours, he claimed.
