KABUL (Pajhwok): The Council of Ministers on Monday ruled out signing of major agreements in mining, urban development and construction sectors until the new government was formed.
Speaking at the Council of Ministers meeting chaired by President Hamid Karzai at the presidential palace, the minister of mining and petroleum briefed the participants on major projects of the country.
A statement from the presidential palace said the Council of Ministers decided to submit a draft of Afghanistan’s major mining and construction agreements to the next government.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani briefed the participants on the council’s decision taken in 2012 regarding modernization of documents and marking the border points between Afghanistan and Iran for which an amount of $9 million was allocated.
Finance Minister Omar Zakhilwal rejected in categorical terms report published in the Washington Post regarding problems in Afghanistan’s financial system.
Dubbing the Post report as fabricated and groundless, he said the finance ministry system was running efficiently and it was paying government officials salaries well on time.
Also the ministers’ council directed information and culture minister to return the historical monuments of Afghanistan currently being exhibited in Australia and hand them over the new government.
Following requests by the information minister, the Council of Ministers ordered finance minister to release $1 million to the information ministry for the reconstruction of National Museum.
