KABUL (Pajhwok): A number of Kabul University students on Saturday staged a protest demonstration against one year repeat study and transferring some students to other universities as punishment to those involved in a fighting on the campus.
The protestors began marching from the Deh Bori Square near the university and assembled in front of the Ministry of Higher Education. They were chanting slogans like “we want our rights”, “the decision is illegal”, “we don’t accept blind decision, etc.”
They said 26 students, including six females, were allegedly involved in one of the quarrels that took place in Ramazan last in a hostel.
The university administration has decided to fine those involved in the fighting by transferring some to other universities and asking others to repeat one year study as punishment.
Sahar Daqiq, a medicine faculty student, said she was among the students who had been deprived of one year study in the wake of the ministry’s decision, which she called as unjust.
“We were not present at the time of the fighting, we don’t know anything about the clash that took place in the hostel,” she said.
The demonstrators set 3:00pm a deadline for the ministry to reconsider its decision, otherwise, they would continue their demonstration.
