NEW YORK (Pajhwok): US Secretary of State John Kerry is unlikely to attend the inauguration of Dr Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai as president, sources told Pajhwok Afghan News.
Instead the presidential inauguration on September 29 and signing of the expected bilateral security agreement the next day is likely to be attended by a senior US official.
Kerry, who was personally involved in resolving disputes between the presidential candidates and travelled to Kabul a few times on this issue, is hosting a luncheon for Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The visit of the Indian premier to Washington was scheduled much in advance and given importance in the context of the US-India relationship, Kerry’s presence was felt more in the US capital, the sources said.
