28 lives lost on power transfer day

KABUL (Pajhwok): On the oath-taking day on Monday, at least 28 people lost their lives and around 30 were injured in various terrorist acts in across the country, officials said.

The incidents of armed assaults and bomb blasts were reported from the capital Kabul, Pakita, Kunduz, Faryab and Baghlan provinces. An early morning attack near the Kabul International Airport killed four security men and three civilians.

A brazen attack on the Zurmat district headquarters in Paktia left 16 people dead.  Officials said among the dead were four policemen, four civil officials and eight armed rebels.

Similarly, a suicide attack injured two civilians in northern Kunduz province. Taliban claimed responsibility for the attacks in Kabul and Paktia. They also claimed inflicting heavy losses on security forces in Helmand’s Sangin district.

Elsewhere, a roadside bomb killed officials of the Afghan Border Force (ABF) in northwestern Faryab province. A Taliban commander was also reported dead.
