High school teacher gunned down in Batikot

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Unknown gunmen shot dead a high school teacher in the Batikot district of eastern Nangarhar province on Wednesday, an official said.

Noor Mohammad, the 27-year-old who taught at the district’s high school, was on his way to school from home when two gunmen on a motorcycle sprayed him with bullets shortly after 10am, a spokesman for the Ministry of Education, Kabir Haqmal, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said Noor Mohammad was resident of the district and had been educating the country’s children.

Due to his passion for children’s education, Mohammad had been teaching at a primary school as a hounorary teacher an addition to his job at the high school, Haqmal said.

The Ministry of Education condemned the killing of Mohammad in a statement that asked security organs to arrest and bring to justice his killers.

Nangarhar Education Department’s spokesman Asif Shinwari told Pajhwok Afghan News Noor Mohammad succumbed to his wounds in hospital.

He said the teacher came under attack in the district’s Hafiz Kodi area.
