<p class="rteleft">ZARANJ (Pajhwok): Up to 220 uplift schemes were executed in the southwestern Nimroz province in the past one year but dozens have been halted by insecurity, officials said on Tuesday.</p>
<p class="rteleft">The projects includethe gravelling of a 20-km road, eight water wells, a 2-km protection wall, five school buildings, eight playgrounds and a community centre.</p>
<p class="rteleft">Director of Rural Rehabilitation and DevelopmentEng. Farid Ahmad Azami told Pajhwok Afghan Newsthe schemes accounted for more than 200 million afghanis.</p>
<p class="rteleft">The projects were executed in parts of the province, excluding restive Khashrod district, under the National Solidarity Programme (NSP), benefiting thousands of people.</p>
<p class="rteleft">Ghulam Sarwar, a tribal elder from Kang district, saidthe transportation problems had been resolved with the construction of a seven kilometres road in the area.</p>
<p class="rteleft">But another tribal elder, Abdul Haq, complained only a few projects had been implemented in Khashrod. He asked the government to pay more attention to the district’s development.</p>
<p class="rteleft">According to Azami, 37 projects costing 37 million afs remained incomplete due to insecurity in Khashrod district over the past one week.</p>
<p class="rteleft">Residents demanded a 20-bed clinic in the district centre instead of other projects in the district, said the town’s administrative head, Mohammad Hashim Noorzai. Remote parts of the direct are insecure.</p>
