KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi views the ongoing Indian Premier League is a chance for him and leg-spinner Rashid Khan to prove their mettle.
Nabi and Rashid, a teenaged spin sensation from Afghanistan, have been picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad in players’ auction for the 10th edition of IPL.
IPL was a chance for him to show the world that his country had got talent, the Press Trust of India quoted Nabi as saying on Friday.
“There are lots of expectations from me and Rashid to perform in IPL. Afghan cricket fans are waiting. Hopefully, we will perform well,” he told reporters in Hyderabad.
He added the Afghan youth were full of enthusiasm for the sport, though cricketing facilities in the conflict-devastated country left a lot to be desired.
The all-rounder said: “India is building a cricket ground in Kandahar. MS Dhoni, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are some of the Indian players who are popular in Afghanistan.”
