‘Peace process sans women’s participation incomplete’

<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a>’s affairs head, lawmaker Fauzia Kofi, on Saturday demanded greater role for women in the government system.</p>

<p>Kofi told reporters in Kabul the government had ignored women’s participation in different departments and urged greater role for the gender in the country’s political landscape.</p>

<p>She said women’s role was vital for peace and stability in the country and their participation in social and political arena was the need of the hour.</p>

<p>The lower house member said a strategy for political and social empowerment of women had been developed in consultations with civil society groups and women’s rights watchdogs.</p>

<p>In the strategy, the government and the National Directorate of Security (<a href="/en/nds" class="glossify-link">NDS</a>) had been asked to ensure women’s political participation and their active role in the peace process.</p>

<p>“Without participation of women, the peace process is incomplete. The process needs more coordination,” she said.</p>

<p>Habiba Surabi, deputy head of the <a href="/en/high-peace-council" class="glossify-link">High Peace Council</a> (HPC), also stressed greater political and social role for women. She said currently 12 women were part of the HPC 62-member team.</p>
