KABUL by the United States.

Speaking at a conference in Sochi city of Russia on Wednesday, Karzai hoped the US would joint forces with Afghanistan’s neighbors, particularly Russia and China, in achieving peace in his country.

“There is no doubt peace in Afghanistan means peace in the entire region”, Karzai said, calling for revival of regional cooperation for reaching peace in Afghanistan.

Karzai also met with Zalmai Khalilzad, US’s special representative for Afghan peace and the US ambassador in Kabul last week and shared his views with them about peace.

The Former president traveled to Russia two days ago for attending the conference.

On reconciliation mission, Khalilzad recently met with a number of Afghan officials, Taliban representatives and leaders of some countries.

After his trip to Pakistan, Qatar, the UAE and Saudi Arabia, Khalilzad returned to Kabul and briefed President Ashraf Ghani about his swing around the region.

Khalilzad had said he would also share his meetings’ report with the US authorities.

The Taliban have confirmed meeting Khalilzad in Qatar.
