SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Children from northern Jawzjan province, through a painting competition, have highlighted the need for an end to the conflict and establishment of lasting peace.
More than 20 children took part in the contest — One Smile, One Voice for Peace — was launched by the Social Institute in Shiberghan. Three children, whose drawings depicted peace messages, were granted awards.
Saba, who participated in the competition, told Pajhwok Afghan News they wanted to give the message of love and peace through their paintings. She urged the warring parties to give peace a fair chance.
The girl said she was tired of reading and watching war-related reports in the media, Schools had been closed by the conflict, she lamented, calling for national unity.
The little girl said children could study well and everyone would live in an environment of satisfaction if peace was restored. She urged militants to join peace process.
Bahara, 8-year-old, wished a prosperous and peaceful Afghanistan. “I request you to renounce conflict and ensure peace so that everyone can live happily.”
Maryam Yousafi, head of the institute, said the event was aimed to promote peace and end war in the country. “We launched the programme for children to send messages to the people to work for peace,” she added.
