UK to continue supporting Afghanistan: Economic advisor

<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> in various sectors and his country would continue helping Afghanistan.</p>

<p>Nicholas Lea, senior economic advisor to the British government, told a news conference in Kabul said during his visit to Afghanistan he examined the situation in the country and shared the results of his analysis, which was not representative of the British government, with journalists.</p>

<p>He said huge achievements were seen in areas of <a href="/en/education" class="glossify-link">education</a> in Afghanistan during the last 18 years.</p>

<p>Nicholas Lea said for example in 2001, less than one million children were attending school but now their number had increased to nine millions and in 2006 around 60 percent people had access to healthcare services but 90 percent had access to healthcare and decent changes had come to agriculture as well.</p>

<p>He added, “I know Afghanistan had suffered from tough conditions and still faces some difficulties in some issues but I want to say my country would keep continue its assistance with Afghanistan for a long term.”</p>

<p>He further said his suggestions to his country would be to support Afghanistan in areas of poverty, education and training and healthcare.</p>

<p>He said Afghanistan would become stronger in terms of economy if more work was done in areas of mines extraction, agriculture, education and training, healthcare and family planning.</p>

<p>Lea said a bundle of investment opportunities was available in Afghanistan mineral sector which could take the country to stable situation.</p>

<p>He said if more attention was paid to the country’s dry fruits, an increase would be seen in the country’s exports in near future.</p>
