16 Afghan health workers die from Covid-19

<p><a href="/en/afganistan/kabul" class="glossify-link">KABUL</a> (MoPH) on Monday said at least 16 health workers died from Covid-19 infection and another 1,250 workers contracted the virus across the country.</p>

<p>After first reported in western Herat city of <a href="/en/afghanistan" class="glossify-link">Afghanistan</a> in March, the COVID-19 pandemic has now spread to all 34 provinces of the country.</p>

<p>According to the MoPH, around 25,527 individuals contracted the virus in Afghanistan, with 478 Afghans dying and more than 5,000 others recovering so far.</p>

<p>The MoPH) said a total of 57,000 individuals underwent tests so far and over 25,000 tested positive for Covid-19 throughout the country.</p>

<p>The <a href="/en/world" class="glossify-link">World</a> Health Organization (WHO), quoting the MoPH, said that 16 health workers had died from Covid-19 in Afghanistan.</p>

<p>It added that around 15 percent of patients or around 1,270 individuals were health workers.</p>

<p>Due to lack of treatment equipment and other protection gear, most of the health workers infected with the Covid-19 in Afghanistan.</p>

<p>The dead mostly included individuals who were 40 and 60 years old while those infected were aged between 29 and 49 years in Afghanistan.</p>

<p>According to the ministry, most cases surfaced in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Nangarhar and Kandahar provinces compared to the remaining provinces.</p>
